I was born in Kenya in 1997. My father did not want me to go to school; he wanted to marry me off at ten years old… Instead, I decided to open my own school and become an icon for women everywhere!

My mother fought tirelessly to ensure I received an education, despite our family’s financial struggles. With the help of the area chief, she advocated for my right to learn, and eventually, I completed seven years of primary education. However, the road to high school was fraught with challenges. It seemed as if all doors were closed until one day, the principal of Enkare Nairowua Girls Secondary School offered me a lifeline by allowing me to attend for free. Completing high school was a turning point in my life, and I knew I had to use my education to impact my community positively. That’s why I started the Glory School, a small but mighty institution that provided an opportunity for children who couldn’t afford to attend school.

With my own savings and funding from friends and family, we started small, with just two semi- permanent classrooms and a latrine. But even though we had limited resources, we were a beacon of hope for the children in our community. Starting a school from scratch was daunting, but it was also one of the most empowering experiences of my life. It taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and the power of community.

Together, we overcame the challenges we faced and built a school that we could all be proud of.

Humans for Education has been an invaluable partner in my journey to starting my own school and, hopefully, franchising. They have also provided me with essential training in financial literacy, fundraising, and business operations. Thanks to this empowering training, I have fundraised successfully, reaching out to families and communities to request financial assistance.

In just the first three months of my fundraising efforts, I generated over $6,000. This has enabled me to provide better education, pay for teachers’ salaries, feed my students, and re-invest funds into additional revenue-generating ventures. Now, as the founder of Glory School, I am determined to provide the same opportunity to children who come from similar backgrounds.

My story is one of resilience and determination, a testament to the transformative power of education and the impact of entrepreneurship. Although the road ahead may be long, I am inspired and excited to continue on this journey. And I know that together we can go far!
